The Best March Landscaping Tips

Spring is right around the corner, meaning we can finally start our landscaping projects for this year!

Spring is right around the corner, meaning we can finally start our landscaping projects for this year! While it still may seem early for plants, everything is sprouting out of the ground and getting ready to start blooming. So, it’s actually the perfect time to get started planning your garden and tending your other landscaping. How can you ensure that your lawn and garden are set up for success this spring? We promise a little work now will pay off big time in the coming months.

Plan for Planting

Pre-bloom is the best time to plan your landscaping and planting projects. Since we’ve had some fantastic rain and the temperatures slowly rise, it’s the perfect environment for new plants. Now is the time to plant bigger, heartier shrubs and trees in your yard. The soft soil will make a smooth transition for them, so they’ll take less time to get adjusted to their new home.

Clean Up Your Landscaping

Winter can be rough on trees and other woody shrubs. The extra weight of snow and ice can cause weaker branches to snap off, leaving debris in your yard. We recommend trimming any damaged or broken limbs to encourage extra growth this season. When pruning your trees and shrubs, make sure you’re using the proper technique to make sure you’re not damaging your landscaping. If you’re unsure how to clean up your landscaping safely, we’re always happy to help!

Prevent Weeds

Did you know that you can stop weeds from sprouting in your yard? You can apply pre-emergent herbicides before they even start growing. If you’ve noticed a few weeds starting to poke through your landscaping, you can pull them and use post-emergent products to help keep any more already grown weeds at bay.

Fertilize Your Landscaping

Since everything is just starting to poke through, plants could benefit from a little extra boost to jump-start their growth this spring. Fertilizing any perennials, hearty shrubs, and trees, especially after pruning, is a great way to ensure they have everything they need to grow beautifully!
